When we have an ache or pain, often times we will stretch a little, and even massage the area ourselves. We may be able to get our significant other or even a child to help us out with massaging the sore area. We may book an appointment with our massage therapist, osteopath or chiropractor. We get aches and pains from our everyday activities. These can be from our posture while walking, the way we sit while driving, if we sit at a computer desk all day, etc. Did you know that our pets also have aches and pains. Think about what they do on a day to day basis. They lie on the floor (not the comfiest of spots), jump on to and off of furniture, run to play outside, play tug of war with a toy, bend over to eat and drink. All these can cause aches and pains in their back, joints, and muscles. Unlike us, they can't ask us to massage a sore muscle, they can't ask us to stretch their hip, and they definitely can't book an appointment with an animal massage therapist. You may notice them stretching their back a bit if they lean their head down on the ground and keep their back end up in the air. However, that will only do so much for them. We as pet parents, do know our animals best. We can see when they are "off" when walking, sitting, lying down, running. It is up to us to help them out if they seem to be in pain or discomfort. Animals can benefit from massage and osteopathy just as much as we can.
Since, one can not explain to an animal the process, it is best to find a qualified animal massage therapist/osteopath, as they will know how to properly introduce them to the massage session and build the animals trust. Once they have gained their trust, you will see how much your animal will relax and enjoy the massage session. If you notice your pet seems to be off when sitting, running, walking or sleeping, why not give them the relaxing gift of animal massage & osteopathy. Check back in the fall for more information on animal massage & osteopath services. Source: Animal Osteopathy & Massage
